Medical Stories Story from a Community Health Worker “One day I went to visit a community
health post. The health post officer
looked happy. He told me about an incident he said: “A
dangerous event happened in the village yesterday, and because I could help my
people I feel happy,” he said. I asked
him how he helped them. he said ”I saw a dog with red eyes and his head down and it seemed to be about to attack
the boys who were playing near by, so I immediately brought the boys
into a shop, and I closed the door until
the dog moved away . The shopkeeper said: “Wakil Ahmad what is the
matter”. I told him Kaka Jan there is a crazy dog it’s dangerous, it wanted to
attack the children, I told him about the rabies illness. He believed me
because he knows that I am a community health person and I told him about the
other kinds of illness such as: tuberculosis, tetanus, and influenza. He said “Hurry up we must inform Arbab
Fazlahmad about this dog, after a while Arbab with my father and other people
with sticks in their hands came, they were looking for the dog. I talked with neighbors about the crazy dog then
suddenly someone who was looking fearful came with an injured little boy , I
asked her what happened, she said, “Please help him, a black crazed dog bit him
on his back while he was playing with other children in the village,” so I immediately
washed the wound with antiseptic. I dressed his wounds and I told him to go to
the hospital to get the rabies vaccine, because unfortunately it was a crazy
dog, and it is very dangerous if you don’t get the vaccine. He was taken to the hospital and then Arbab and the other villagers came by he said that they had killed that dog. He added that we are so pleased to have such people as you who tell us about health and diseases. I have learned about many issues in the sessions which are held at the community health post in the village. And all the villagers are thankful for the health staff and AIL that provided a good health service for them.” Clinic Midwife story “One day a pregnant woman came to the maternity
ward. She had 4 children and this was the fifth. After a physical check up, we
found that she was anemic. We sent her to the laboratory to test her hemoglobin.
Her HB result was 8gr which is low.
After that we recommended she eat foods that are rich in iron and gave
her one month’s supply of Ferfolic tablets. After a month she came back to the clinic and
we tested her HB again. But this time her HB was 11gr which was good. I told
her that at the first visit she had an anemia problem but now her HB result is
good. Also I advised her to be careful about her nutrition. When she left the
clinic she was very happy that things were good.” Clinic doctor story: “It was Tuesday and I was very busy in the clinic. While I was
registering patients, I saw a young woman who was about 30 years old and was
hugging a child and had a stick on her arm. She seemed very tired. I asked
about her arm and she answered me, ”When I was a child my parents did not vaccinate me. Therefore now I
have this problem. When I was a child and would see my peers playing a game I would
feel very depressed. They made jokes about me and I could not take part in
their games .When I see healthy people I get angry at my parents. Now I am bringing
my child to get vaccinated so that she won’t be a defective person like me.” The people who were there became depressed and sad. Then I told them to take care of their children. If you want to have healthy children certainly you must do their vaccinations." Clinic nurse story: “One day a patient came in the clinic the patient was depressed about life and the doctors took time to care for her and her mental state. She had burned herself and most of her body was burned. She was very depressed and her living situation was depressing for her so the doctors took more care and provided more services for her. Now the patient is healthy and she is doing well. She is satisfied with the doctors of clinic and that life is enjoyable for her now”
Education Stories Azita's Story “My name is Azita and I am 15 years old but I do not look it because I am backward. ( She is very short and looks like a 6 year old) I was born like this it is genetic. My mother always tells me that you were as small as a cat and I brought you up so carefully. When I was 6 years old I could not talk or walk and my mother had to feed me. When I was 10 my sister held my hand and helped me walk, but sometimes she has got tired and said: “One day I will leave you near a mosque that a dog or other animals eat you.” I have never gone into the street to play with other children, because they made jokes. I was always at home and did not have any hobby to do. I have a sister who is 5 years younger. My mother registered her in a literacy course and she was going to school after the course. Whenever she was not at home, I would take her pen and notebook and continue drawing nonsense lines until I learned how to hold a pen? Then I started to beg to my father to let me go to course with my sister, but he told me no because the students will make fun of you. I continued begging my father and finally he let me to go. My mother brought me to AIL center and registered me. I was in the first class and my sister was in third. All teachers sympathized with me and then after that, they accepted me as a normal student and I went to class for first time and started lessons, and no one in that class made jokes about me. My hands did not reach the board, but our teacher hugged me and I have been able to write on the board. Every night I have cried and asked God to help me learn something. I was given notebook, pens, and books each month from the office supply because we are very poor and my parents cannot afford these things for me. Now backward Azita can write and read but I just have some problems with spelling and that is because of my mental situation. We are very poor but now I am always happy because I am literate and I have become familiar with praying and Islamic rules before I did not know about religion. My mother did not take me out with her. Now I realized that
being backward is not something to be ashamed of and I always pray for Professor
Yaccoobi and I hope the best for her who
has provided us such services.” Another AIL education center student “My name is Said Kazim. My
father was always asking me about my lessons especially about Religion and Science
subjects. I could answer him a little, but I could not answer at all when the
question was about Chemistry, Physics and Algebra subjects. When I got into the
AIL Center, I thought I won’t learn anything. I was very indifferent about
going to class for a week, but then I realized that my teacher teaches very
well, so I got interested. Now a month has passed and I learned a lot of the formulas of Chemistry and I am very happy
about it. I am saved from my father’s punishment. “ |
